In a message shared on Truth Social, he stated, "I am happy to announce a THREE DAY CEASEFIRE on May 9th, 10th, and 11th, in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This period coincides with Russia's Victory Day celebrations, which also acknowledges Ukraine's significant role in World War II. The ceasefire will halt all military actions and facilitate a prisoner exchange of 1,000 individuals from each nation." Trump expressed gratitude for the cooperation of both President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stating, "This request was made directly by me, and I appreciate their agreement. I hope this marks the beginning of the end of a long and devastating war. Discussions are ongoing to resolve this major conflict, the largest since World War II, and we are making progress every day."
