Trump Advocates for Broader Adoption of Abraham Accords in Middle East

President Donald Trump has called on several Middle Eastern and Muslim-majority countries to join the Abraham Accords, asserting that these agreements are vital for any future negotiations with Iran. He emphasized the economic and strategic benefits of the accords, which have already normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations. As indirect negotiations with Iran continue, Trump’s push for broader participation in the accords reflects his belief in their importance for long-term stability in the region. This development adds another layer to the ongoing diplomatic efforts surrounding the Iranian conflict.

Trump's Call for Accords Participation

On Thursday, President Donald Trump encouraged various Middle Eastern and predominantly Muslim nations to embrace the Abraham Accords, emphasizing that these landmark normalization agreements are crucial for any future negotiations with Iran. In a comprehensive statement, Trump conveyed to leaders from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain that endorsing the accords should be a prerequisite for engaging in a larger resolution to the Iranian conflict. He stated, “Given the extensive efforts by the United States to piece together this intricate puzzle, it should be essential for all these nations to simultaneously endorse the Abraham Accords.”

Trump pointed out that the UAE and Bahrain have already joined the accords, urging other nations to follow suit promptly. While acknowledging that a few countries might have valid reasons for hesitation, he expressed confidence that most should be “prepared and eager” to solidify an agreement with Iran that could be historic.

Economic and Strategic Advantages

Trump underscored the achievements of the Abraham Accords, which were established during his initial term and facilitated the normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab countries, including the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan (with Kazakhstan joining later). He remarked, “The Abraham Accords have resulted in a Financial, Economic, and Social BOOM for the involved nations.” He further stated that these accords have been beneficial and will continue to enhance prosperity, bringing genuine Power, Strength, and Peace to the Middle East for the first time in 5,000 years.

He also suggested that Iran could eventually join the accords if a deal with the United States is reached, describing it as a potentially “remarkable” opportunity to unify the region.

Current Diplomatic Landscape

Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing indirect negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, facilitated by mediators, including Pakistan. The ceasefire, which has lasted for a month, remains delicate, with significant challenges such as Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has consistently stated that he is “not in a rush” to finalize an agreement but has cautioned about the possibility of military action if conditions are not satisfied. He has reiterated that any deal must ensure Iran does not develop nuclear weapons.

The president’s initiative to broaden the Abraham Accords aligns with his long-held belief that normalization between Israel and Arab nations is vital for enduring stability in the Middle East. He characterized the accords as a document that would be “held in high regard like no other agreement ever signed.” This recent development adds complexity to the intricate diplomacy surrounding the Iranian issue, with Trump positioning the Abraham Accords as a cornerstone for achieving broader regional peace.
