Agartala, March 18: The State Election Commission (SEC) has declared that elections for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will take place on April 13.
During a press briefing, State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar confirmed that voting for the 28 TTAADC seats is set for April 13, with the counting of votes scheduled for April 17.
Kumar mentioned that the official notification regarding the elections will be released on March 18.
The SEC has established March 25 as the deadline for submitting nominations, with scrutiny to occur on March 26, and the final date for withdrawing nomination papers set for March 28.
“The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is now in effect in the areas preparing for the elections. I urge all political parties to comply with the MCC to facilitate free, fair, and peaceful elections,” he stated on Tuesday.
The current term of the tribal council is set to conclude on April 18.
The ruling TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) holds 19 seats in the tribal council, while the BJP has nine, and two members were appointed by the Governor.
Kumar assured that all necessary preparations for conducting the elections have been finalized, and additional security forces will be deployed to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
Tripura's DGP Anurag emphasized that stringent security measures will be implemented at polling stations to allow voters to cast their ballots without fear or intimidation.
“We have categorized all 1,257 polling booths based on security assessments. Among these, 311 booths are classified as high criticality index (A), 693 as security threat perception (B), and 253 as normal,” he explained.
The DGP also noted that approximately 11,000 personnel from the police, TSR, and CRPF will be assigned to security duties throughout the election period.
Additionally, the BSF will enhance surveillance along the international border with Bangladesh to prevent any unauthorized cross-border activities.
