Tripura Police Unravel Murder Mystery Linked to Love Triangle
Murder Investigation in Tripura
Agartala, June 12: Authorities in Tripura have cracked the case of a missing 28-year-old man, whose remains were found concealed within a commercial freezer located approximately 112 kilometers from his residence. Investigators have identified a love triangle as the motive behind this heinous act.
Six individuals have been apprehended in connection with the homicide. The primary suspect, Dr. Dibakar Saha (28), is believed to have orchestrated the crime.
Among those arrested are Jaydip Das (20), Nabanita Das (25), and Animesh Yadav (21), who allegedly assisted in executing the murder and disposing of the body. Additionally, Dr. Saha's parents, Dipak Saha (52) and Debika Saha (48), were taken into custody for allegedly aiding in the cover-up.
Shariful Islam, a resident of Agartala, was reported missing on the evening of June 8. After three days of searching by his family, police discovered his body on June 11, hidden in a freezer at a shop in Gandatwisa (formerly Gandacherra) in the Dhalai district, owned by the father of the main suspect.
West Tripura Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Kumar confirmed that the murder was motivated by romantic jealousy involving Shariful, Dr. Dibakar Saha, and a woman from Chandrapur in Agartala. Shariful had recently ended his relationship with her, while Dr. Saha had just started dating her.
“Dibakar Saha perceived Shariful as a threat to his romantic interests and resolved to eliminate him,” stated SP Kumar.
Investigators revealed that Shariful was lured to a residence in South Indranagar under the pretense of receiving a gift.
Once there, he was strangled to death by Dr. Saha, assisted by Animesh Yadav and Nabanita Das. The body was subsequently placed into a large trolley bag and transported to Gandatwisa the following morning.
To hinder decomposition and conceal evidence, the remains were stored in a commercial freezer used for ice cream, owned by Dr. Saha’s father, Dipak Saha. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, with more information expected to emerge soon.
