Trinamool Congress Suspends MLA Humayun Kabir Over Controversial Babri Masjid Remarks
Suspension of MLA Humayun Kabir
On Thursday, the Trinamool Congress took action by suspending Debra MLA Humayun Kabir following his controversial statements regarding the construction of a Babri Masjid in Murshidabad district.
The Babri Masjid, located in Ayodhya, was destroyed on December 6, 1992, by Hindu extremists who asserted that an ancient Ram temple existed at that location. More than three decades later, a Ram temple was inaugurated at the site, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi presiding over the ceremony.
Kabir had previously ignited controversy by announcing plans to lay the foundation stone for a mosque inspired by the Babri Masjid in Beldanga, Murshidabad, on December 6.
In response to his remarks, Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim confirmed the suspension, noting that Kabir had received multiple warnings regarding his statements.
“We observed that one of our MLAs from Murshidabad suddenly announced his intention to build the Babri Masjid,” Hakim stated. “Why the sudden focus on Babri Masjid? We had already cautioned him.”
The ruling party in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress, accused Kabir of attempting to incite communal discord, suggesting that he was being influenced by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
