Tributes Pour In for Former Indian Football Star Mohan Singh

The All India Football Federation has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mohan Singh, a former Indian midfielder known for his remarkable contributions to the sport. Debuting in the early 1970s, Singh represented India in the Pre-Olympic Tournament and had a successful club career with East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey paid tribute to Singh, highlighting his dedication and impact on Indian football. As the football community mourns his loss, Singh's legacy as a talented midfielder and his achievements in domestic competitions will be remembered.
 

Mohan Singh Passes Away

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) expressed its sorrow over the passing of former Indian midfielder Mohan Singh, who died on Thursday, 2026.


A Midfielder of Distinction

Mohan Singh was a talented midfielder who represented India in the early 1970s. He made his debut for the senior national team against Burma on March 22, 1972, during the Pre-Olympic Tournament held in Rangoon. Throughout the 1972 Pre-Olympic campaign, he earned three caps for the national team, as noted in an AIFF press release.


AIFF President's Heartfelt Tribute

Kalyan Chaubey, the President of AIFF, remarked, "Mohan Singh was a remarkable midfielder who dedicated himself to Indian football during his career. His contributions to the national team and several of the country's most prestigious clubs showcased his dedication and love for the game. On behalf of the Indian football community, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones. May he rest in peace."


Achievements in Domestic and Club Football

Mohan Singh had a notable domestic career, representing Bengal in the Santosh Trophy in 1972, where he played a pivotal role in the team's triumph, scoring two goals to help Bengal secure the title.


At the club level, he had successful tenures with East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. While playing for East Bengal from 1972 to 1975, he netted 11 goals across various competitions, including the Calcutta Football League, IFA Shield, Bordoloi Trophy, Durand Cup, and Rovers Cup. During his time with East Bengal, he won multiple titles: Calcutta Football League (1972, 1975), IFA Shield (1972, 1975), Durand Cup (1972), Rovers Cup (1972, 1975), and Bordoloi Trophy (1972).


In 1973 and 1974, he played for Mohun Bagan, scoring three goals and winning the Durand Cup in 1974.


He also represented Mohammedan Sporting Club in 1976, further solidifying his legacy in Indian club football.
