Tribute to Major Rishikesh Ramani on His 17th Martyrdom Day

The 17th martyrdom anniversary of Major Rishikesh Ramani was commemorated with a heartfelt tribute ceremony in Ahmedabad. The event featured a Guard of Honor, speeches highlighting Major Ramani's bravery, and the distribution of educational materials to children. Maganbhai Patel emphasized the importance of supporting martyrs' families and strengthening India's defense sector. The day concluded with a blood donation camp and a musical tribute, showcasing the community's respect for the sacrifices made by soldiers. This event serves as a reminder of the valor and dedication of those who serve the nation.
 

Honoring the Sacrifice of Major Rishikesh Ramani

Recently, a tribute ceremony was held to commemorate the 17th martyrdom anniversary of Major Rishikesh Ramani, who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. As in previous years, the event featured a Guard of Honor and took place at the Major Rishikesh Ramani Garden in the Nikol area of Ahmedabad, presided over by Maganbhai Patel, Chairman of the Seva Foundation. The ceremony commenced with Major Ramani's parents, Vallabhbhai and Geetaben Ramani, paying their respects at the memorial alongside the Guard of Honor.


Following this, the chief guest, Maganbhai Patel, along with two senior army officers, laid a floral wreath at the memorial and presented a financial aid check to the Major Rishikesh Ramani Trust, facilitated by the Bharat Vikas Parishad, Mahavir Nagar branch.


Distinguished Guests and Their Tributes

Among the distinguished guests were Dr. Bhavesh Thakkar from Ananta and Star Hospital, and Lieutenant Chetan Vats from the 11 Maratha Regiment, who attended with a team of 18 soldiers. They also paid tribute to Major Ramani with the bugle of the Guard of Honor and recorded their messages in the visitor book. The attendees were honored with mementos presented by the dignitaries.


This event was organized with the collaborative efforts of four branches of the Bharat Vikas Parishad, including Mahavir Nagar, Naroda, Nikol, and Bapunagar.


Maganbhai Patel's Speech on Major Ramani's Legacy

Addressing the attendees, Maganbhai Patel spoke about Major Rishikesh Ramani's bravery and sacrifice, highlighting his journey from a young patriot inspired by his family to becoming a Lieutenant in the Indian Army on June 11, 2005, after completing military training. His first posting was in Punjab, and after successfully completing Young Officers and Commando courses, he was deployed in Jammu and Kashmir. Promoted to Major on June 11, 2008, he was tasked with a challenging search operation against infiltrating terrorists, where he valiantly faced extreme conditions and ultimately sacrificed his life on June 6, 2009, after enduring twelve gunshots.


In recognition of his valor, the Government of India posthumously awarded him the 'Shaurya Medal'.


Education and Career of Major Ramani

Maganbhai Patel also shared insights into Major Ramani's educational background, noting that he completed his primary education at a private Gujarati school in Ahmedabad from 1988 to 1994, followed by secondary education at a military school in Jamnagar from 1994 to 2001. He then joined the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, Pune, and completed his training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun from 2001 to 2005. His appointment as a Lieutenant in the Punjab Regiment's unit-23 came on June 11, 2005, and he was later honored with the 'Army Medal' for his bravery.


Patel emphasized that India's defense sector is crucial for national security, highlighting the importance of border and internal security.


Strengthening India's Defense Sector

Patel elaborated on the significance of a robust defense sector, stating that it is a strategic asset for the nation. He noted that India's defense budget is among the largest globally, with a focus on self-reliance and local production of weapons and defense equipment under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.


He urged the government and society to ensure the welfare of martyrs' families, emphasizing the moral responsibility to secure their futures.


Government Initiatives for Martyrs' Families

The government has implemented various schemes to support the families of martyrs, including financial assistance and educational scholarships for their children. Patel highlighted the importance of NGOs and corporate CSR funds in aiding these families, ensuring that the sacrifices of soldiers are honored.


He reiterated that a strong nation is one that takes full responsibility for the families of its fallen soldiers, fostering a spirit of patriotism among the youth.


Community Engagement and Blood Donation Camp

The event also featured a blood donation camp, where attendees voluntarily donated blood, resulting in the collection of 129 units. After the Guard of Honor ceremony, school bags and notebooks were distributed to children of the garden's staff by Vallabhbhai Ramani and Maganbhai Patel.


The day concluded with attendees chanting slogans in honor of Major Ramani, and a musical tribute titled 'Veeranjali' was performed by renowned folk artist Dr. Ranjitsinh Wank and his musical group.
