AIFF Mourns the Loss of Gift Raikhan
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) expressed deep sorrow over the unexpected passing of Gift Raikhan, the former head coach of NEROCA FC, who died at the age of 45. Raikhan was a prominent figure in Indian football, particularly known for his impactful contributions at both the club and state levels, as highlighted by the AIFF.
A Distinguished Coaching Journey
Raikhan's coaching career was predominantly linked with NEROCA FC, where he had multiple tenures from 2015 to 2026. Under his leadership, the Imphal-based team clinched the I-League 2nd Division title in the 2016-17 season, marking their first-ever promotion to the top tier. In their inaugural I-League season in 2017-18, NEROCA impressively secured the runners-up position.
His remarkable achievements that season earned him the prestigious Syed Abdul Rahim Award for Best Coach in the I-League. Following this, he took the reins at Aizawl FC during the 2018-19 I-League season before returning to NEROCA for further stints. Most recently, he guided the Orange Brigade in the 2025-26 I-League 2 season. Additionally, he served as the head coach for the Manipur team in the Santosh Trophy during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons and held the position of Technical Director at Gokulam Kerala FC in 2021.
Playing Career Highlights
Prior to his coaching endeavors, Gift Raikhan had a successful playing career as a left-back. He played for several clubs, including Bengal Mumbai FC, Churchill Brothers, HAL, Indian Bank, Vasco SC, BEML, and Pune FC. Notably, while with Churchill Brothers, he contributed to the team's runners-up finish in the National Football League during the 2001-02 season.
