Travis Head Achieves Back-to-Back Allan Border Medals

Australian cricketer Travis Head has made history by becoming the fifth player to win the Allan Border Medal in consecutive years, narrowly defeating wicketkeeper Alex Carey in a closely fought voting process. Additionally, Mitchell Starc was honored with the Shane Warne Men's Test Player of the Year award, while Mitchell Marsh and Tim David were recognized as the top players in ODI and T20I formats, respectively, as reported by cricket.com.au.

A Narrowly Won Honor

At a ceremony in Brisbane on Friday, Head received his second Allan Border Medal from former Australian captain Allan Border. Last year, he won the medal by a significant margin and was also a contender for multiple awards. This year, however, he secured the accolade by a slim margin, thanks to votes from players, umpires, and media representatives.

Close Competition

Head triumphed over his South Australian teammate Alex Carey by just one vote and Mitchell Starc by three votes. His remarkable performance, including a match-winning 163 in the New Year's Test at the SCG, was pivotal in his award win. This century marked his third of the Ashes series after stepping up to open the batting.

Outstanding Performance

During the voting period, Head distinguished himself as Australia's leading Test run-scorer and the top batter in the ODI team. He achieved four centuries in the 2025-26 season, which included a rapid 142 against South Africa in Mackay, a crucial 123 in the Perth Test, and a 170 in Adelaide that helped Australia secure the Ashes.

Joining an Elite Circle

With this achievement, Head joins the ranks of his teammates Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon as multiple Allan Border Medal winners. He is now among the select few Australians to have won the award in consecutive years, alongside legends like Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, David Warner, and Shane Watson.

Head Reflects on His Achievement

Expressing his gratitude, Head stated that having Allan Border present the medal made the occasion even more special. He described winning two AB Medals as a significant milestone that he looks forward to sharing with his children in the future. "I felt very privileged and honored to have 'AB' in the room; that’s the difference from last year’s presentation in Sri Lanka. To think that I’ve got two medals and my kids can look at them and I can tell them about it in 20 years’ time is pretty cool," Head remarked after receiving the award.
