Chamba

As snow envelops the majestic peaks of Chamba’s secluded Pangi Valley and temperatures drop significantly, life appears to pause. However, in the small village of Finduru, one residence resonates with the sounds of education.

This vibrant hub belongs to Devi Charan, a dedicated government school teacher and headmaster at Primary School Findpar, who has turned his home into a winter learning center. For over thirty years, he has opened his doors to children during the severe winter breaks, providing them with free education and a glimmer of hope.

A Selfless Commitment Over Three Decades

While many seek refuge indoors from the frigid temperatures, Devi Charan invites 25–30 children into his home each year. His mission transcends basic literacy; he equips rural youth for competitive entrance exams that can significantly alter their futures.

Among the assessments he prepares them for are:

  • Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) entrance test

  • Eklavya Model Residential School entrance test

  • Sainik School entrance test

  • Various scholarship examinations

Due to his unwavering dedication, students from this remote valley have gained admission to esteemed institutions, bringing honor to Pangi.
