Training Workshop on Waste Management Held in Chamba Under Swachh Bharat Mission

A comprehensive one-day training workshop centered on solid and liquid waste management was conducted in collaboration with the Directorate of Urban Development of Himachal Pradesh and the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 at the Municipal Council Chamba. The Himalayan Institute for Environment, Ecology and Development (HIFEED) served as the sanitation knowledge partner for this initiative.
Officials from the Municipal Councils of Chamba, Dalhousie, and Chuwari participated in the workshop, which also included sanitation inspectors, supervisors, educators, trade organization representatives, and members of self-help groups.
Experts shared valuable insights during the training, covering topics such as:
- Effective practices for managing solid and liquid waste
- Identifying household and bulk waste generators
- Source segregation techniques for waste
- Guidelines from Swachh Survekshan
- Strategies for behavior change
- Leadership and operational management skills
The workshop also included an in-depth discussion on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
Notable attendees included Mrs. Neelam Nayar (Chairperson, Municipal Council Chamba), councillors, Executive Officer Mrs. Rakhi Kaushal, Junior Engineer Ms. Nitika Thakur, along with officials from Dalhousie and Chuwari.
Training sessions were led by subject matter experts from HIFEED, including Mr. Gyan Prakash Mishra, Mr. Prakash Dutt Bhatia, Mr. Anil Panyuli, and Mr. Subhash Sharma.
The workshop underscored the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in achieving a garbage-free and sustainable environment in Chamba and its neighboring areas.
