Train Incident Near Jakhapura Station

A significant train accident was narrowly avoided in Odisha's Jajpur district on Thursday morning, February 5, 2026. Three coaches of the Chennai-New Jalpaiguri Express, operating as train number 22611, derailed near Jakhapura railway station. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries reported among the passengers, despite the panic that ensued.

According to railway officials, the incident occurred around 8:51 AM in the Jakhapura yard. An AC coach and two general coaches of the train went off the tracks. Sources indicate that the train was traveling at a low speed at the time, likely due to track maintenance or changes, which helped prevent a more serious accident. Passengers reported a sudden jolt followed by the coaches derailing, causing a commotion, but the slow speed ensured everyone's safety.

The East Coast Railway promptly initiated rescue operations. The affected coaches were detached, and the train was moved to a secure location. Senior railway officials arrived at the scene, and an investigation has commenced. A technical team is working to determine the cause of the derailment.

The train was en route from Chennai Central to New Jalpaiguri, passing through Bhubaneswar on its way to Kolkata. The railway authorities are making alternative arrangements for passengers and are working to restore normalcy.
