Fatal Train Accident Near Bilaspur


In a tragic incident near Bilaspur station in Chhattisgarh, a collision between a passenger train and a goods train resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals and left 14 others injured, according to railway officials. The accident occurred around 4 PM when the MEMU passenger train was en route to Bilaspur from Gevra, located in the neighboring Korba district.


The collision happened while the passenger train was traveling between Gatora and Bilaspur stations, crashing into the goods train from behind. Bilaspur Collector Sanjay Agrawal confirmed that five fatalities have been reported, with four individuals still trapped in the wreckage as rescue efforts continue.


Both trains were moving in the same direction, and the injured passengers have been transported to Apollo Hospital and Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Bilaspur, with one person's condition reported as critical.


Railway authorities have deployed all necessary resources to the site and are taking measures to ensure the injured receive appropriate medical care. Visuals from the scene depict a passenger train coach precariously positioned on a goods train wagon.


In response to the tragedy, railway officials announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 5 lakh for those seriously injured, and Rs 1 lakh for individuals with minor injuries. A thorough investigation will be conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) to determine the cause of the accident and suggest corrective actions.


Relief and rescue operations are being conducted urgently, with senior officials on-site to oversee the situation. The railway administration is providing comprehensive support to affected passengers, including helpline numbers for their families.


Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his sorrow over the incident, assuring that the state government stands with the affected families. He has been in contact with the Bilaspur District Collector for updates and has directed officials to ensure immediate medical assistance for the injured and support for the victims' families.


In a message on social media, the Chief Minister stated that teams from the railway and district administration are actively engaged in relief efforts. He emphasized that all necessary medical resources are being made available for the injured, and the government is closely monitoring the situation with urgency and compassion. The CM extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished for a swift recovery for the injured.
