Emergency services from Erawan Medical Center confirmed the fatalities and injuries.

Siripong Angkasakulkiat, the Deputy Transport Minister, informed the media at the scene that all deceased individuals were located within the bus. He noted that the exact number of passengers on board remains uncertain. When questioned about claims that the bus had halted on the tracks and whether the safety barriers functioned correctly, Siripong stated that further investigation is necessary.

Footage circulating on social media captured the moment of the collision, showing a line of vehicles halted at a railway crossing when the cargo train collided with an orange bus. The force of the impact caused several nearby vehicles to be dragged along the tracks, and the bus was soon engulfed in flames. Motorcycles and their riders were also seen being thrown onto the road due to the crash. Subsequent videos depicted rescuers entering the burnt bus after the fire was extinguished.

According to Khaosod English, the freight train was en route from Chachoengsao province in the south to the Bang Sue district of Bangkok, while the bus was servicing a route between the eastern suburbs and the city center. This tragic event follows a similar incident in January, where a construction crane fell onto a passenger train northeast of Bangkok, resulting in at least 28 fatalities and over 60 injuries. At that time, Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn ordered a comprehensive investigation into the accident.
