Tragic Train Accident in Murshidabad Claims Young Lives

On Friday, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, expressed profound sorrow regarding a tragic train accident in Murshidabad that resulted in the loss of young students' lives. The Chief Minister confirmed that local authorities and health officials are present at the scene to oversee rescue operations and ensure immediate medical assistance for the injured. In a social media post, he stated, 'I am deeply saddened by the tragic train accident that occurred this morning in Murshidabad. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families, especially the parents of the young students who lost their lives. There are no words to alleviate this deep sorrow, and the entire state stands with the grieving families during this difficult time.' Reiterating the administration's commitment to bringing the responsible parties to justice, the Chief Minister added, 'I have instructed the administration to provide all possible support to the injured and affected families. Minister Gauri Shankar Ghosh has already visited the hospital and is monitoring the situation closely. The District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police have been on-site since morning, personally overseeing the operations. We are ensuring that those receiving treatment have access to the best medical facilities. Health Minister Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee is personally ensuring that the injured receive the best possible care at the medical college.'

The Chief Minister further stated that negligence will not be tolerated. The railway gatekeeper has already been arrested by state police. A thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident will be conducted, and I assure the people of West Bengal that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty. The accident occurred at the Karanasubarna railway crossing in Baharampur, Murshidabad, where a train collided with a school van on Friday morning, resulting in the deaths of three students and injuries to several others. The van was crossing the tracks around 7:00 AM when it was struck by the train. The injured schoolchildren are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

According to local sources, the students were on their way to school in the van around 7:00 AM when the railway crossing at Karanasubarna was open. As the van reached the tracks, a train approached and collided with it forcefully, causing the van to spin. Three students died at the scene, while the rescued injured children were promptly admitted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. Hospital sources indicate that several children's conditions are critical, raising concerns that the death toll may rise. Following the incident, the area is engulfed in mourning and heightened tension. Meanwhile, Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar expressed deep sorrow over the fatalities resulting from the collision between the school van and the train in Baharampur, Murshidabad. Calling for accountability, the minister emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding this deadly accident at the railway level crossing.
