Jaipur, September 2: A tragic incident occurred at Nahargarh Biological Park in Jaipur, where a female sanitation worker lost her life following an attack by a tiger. Officials have initiated an investigation involving both forest and police departments to assess any lapses in safety measures.
The attack happened near Enclosure No 16 while the worker was performing her routine cleaning duties. The tiger responsible for the attack has been named ‘Shivaji’.
Initial reports indicate that the tiger unexpectedly attacked the worker as she was cleaning near the enclosure. Colleagues rushed to her aid upon hearing her cries, but unfortunately, she suffered severe injuries and could not be rescued in time.
In response to the incident, Chief Wildlife Warden Arun Prasad, along with Deputy Conservator of Forests Ashish Vyas and other officials, visited the park to assess the situation.
They conducted an inspection of the site and collected initial details regarding the attack. Both the Forest Department and park management have launched an inquiry to clarify the events leading up to the incident.
The police have taken custody of the deceased worker's body and have notified her family about the unfortunate event.
This incident has sparked concerns regarding adherence to safety protocols during maintenance work around enclosures housing dangerous animals.
As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities are scrutinizing whether the necessary Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were adhered to prior to the worker entering the area. There are also reports suggesting that the enclosure or access gate may not have been adequately secured.
Officials aim to determine if there was any negligence or breach of established safety protocols and will assign responsibility as needed.
Nahargarh Biological Park is a prominent wildlife destination near Jaipur, attracting visitors from across Rajasthan, India, and beyond.
In light of this incident, park authorities are reviewing safety measures and operational protocols, especially those related to maintenance activities around tiger and other dangerous-animal enclosures.
The administrative inquiry will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and propose necessary actions to prevent future occurrences.
