Tragic Shooting of Hindu Farmer Sparks Outrage in Pakistan
Incident in Sindh Province
Karachi: A tragic incident occurred in Pakistan's Sindh province where a 23-year-old Hindu farmer was fatally shot, allegedly by his landlord, over a dispute regarding the construction of a shelter on the land.
The police have apprehended the landlord, Sarfaraz Nizamani, along with his accomplice, Zafarullah Khan, in Hyderabad on Saturday night, according to SSP Badin Qamar Reza Jaskani.
Kelash Kohli was targeted for reportedly building a shelter on land owned by Nizamani in Talhar village, an event that took place on January 4.
Jaskani mentioned that a special task force was established to track down the suspects after they initially evaded capture, but they were eventually arrested in the Fateh Chowk area of Hyderabad.
Following Kohli's death from his injuries at a hospital, the Hindu community expressed their outrage, leading to significant protests against the landlord's actions.
An FIR was lodged by Kohli's brother, Poon Kumar Kohli, prompting the police to take action.
Shiva Kaachi, who leads a welfare organization for Hindu minorities in Sindh, emphasized the necessity of holding the perpetrator accountable.
Kaachi noted that the arrests were a direct result of the peaceful demonstrations organized by the Hindu community, which saw hundreds participating in protests and sit-ins in Badin. These protests concluded only after IG Police Sindh Javed Akhtar Odho contacted the victim's father to inform him of the arrests.
Kaachi expressed hope for a just trial, aiming to ensure the safety of the Hindu community and restore their faith in law enforcement.
