Toronto: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old woman of Indian descent was fatally shot in what authorities believe to be a targeted attack in Toronto, Canada. The police have arrested a 37-year-old man, also of Indian origin, in connection with her murder.

The tragic event unfolded on Friday morning at the intersection of Humberwood Boulevard and Rexdale Boulevard, as reported by the Toronto Police Service on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Navneet Kaur, while the suspect, arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police, is named Sharnjeet Singh from Brampton.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after 7:23 AM, where they discovered Kaur suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite attempts to save her, she was declared dead at the location.

Investigators revealed that Kaur and Singh had a brief exchange before he allegedly shot her and fled the scene. He was later located and apprehended.

Singh faces charges of first-degree murder and failing to comply with a legal undertaking.

Authorities believe this incident was premeditated and have stated that there are no additional suspects at large. The homicide unit is currently investigating the case.

A witness recounted to police that Kaur was walking along Humberwood Boulevard when Singh approached her, spoke briefly, and then shot her before running away. The witness promptly contacted emergency services upon witnessing Kaur collapse.

This incident follows another tragic case earlier this month in Edmonton, where a woman of Indian descent was killed by her partner. In that case, 22-year-old Ritish Kumar was arrested and charged with second-degree murder for allegedly strangling his 23-year-old partner, Damanpreet Kaur, in what police classified as an intimate partner homicide.
