Imphal, Sept 27: The bodies of three Naga civilians who lost their lives in the Kailengjang shooting incident in Senapati district, Manipur, are set to be returned to their villages for burial following a condolence service held on Sunday.

The service took place at Traffic Point in Senapati at 11 am, attracting a significant number of attendees who came to honor the deceased.

Initially, the shooting on Saturday afternoon resulted in two fatalities and left two others injured. The death toll increased to three early Sunday when 49-year-old Ashiho Sani from Shajouba village passed away from his injuries at a private hospital around 3 am, as reported by local sources.

The other two victims, K. Rocky Osanah from Chowainamai Khullen and Kh. Kumar from Laii Shirafii, died at the scene of the incident.

Following the shooting, the bodies of Osanah and Kumar were transported to Senapati District Hospital. Another injured individual, 33-year-old Adani Manio from Makhel, was taken to GetWell Hospital for medical attention.

During the condolence service, representatives from various Naga organizations and community groups paid their respects to the three victims.

Tributes were delivered by leaders including the president of the All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM), Naga People Organisation vice-president Adakho, Senapati District Women Association vice-president Loliro, Maram Thangal Region secretary Raigi, and Naga Youth Senapati representative Paul Chawang.

This tragic incident has heightened concerns regarding civilian safety amid the ongoing Naga-Kuki conflict. Reports from Naga organizations and local sources indicate that 27 Naga civilians have died due to violence since the conflict escalated, although this figure remains unverified.

The Kailengjang shooting is one of the latest events raising alarms about the safety of civilians in Naga-populated regions of Senapati and nearby districts.
