Fatal Road Rage Incident in Bengaluru

A tragic road rage incident in South Bengaluru resulted in the death of a 29-year-old tech professional and left his friend injured. The event unfolded around 3:50 a.m. on May 10, allegedly sparked by the victim's refusal to buy a cigarette for the intoxicated driver.

The victim, identified as H.N. Sanjay from Vajarahalli near Kanakapura Main Road, was riding with his friend Chetan Pujamath, 30, who resides in JP Nagar 7th Phase. Chetan sustained only minor injuries, while the accused, Pratheek, a 31-year-old BCom graduate and manager at a private firm from RR Nagar, has been apprehended and is currently in judicial custody.

Details of the Incident

According to police reports, Sanjay and Chetan had gone out for tea late at night and were at a roadside stall when the confrontation occurred. Pratheek, returning home with his wife after a birthday celebration and under the influence of alcohol, approached them and requested a cigarette. When they declined, an argument broke out, prompting Sanjay and nearby bystanders to intervene, with Pratheek's wife attempting to calm him down.

However, shortly after the dispute, as Sanjay and Chetan were leaving on their motorbike, Pratheek followed them in his car. In a shocking act of revenge, he collided with their bike. Chetan was thrown onto the car's hood but escaped with minor injuries, while Sanjay was violently propelled forward, striking a pharmacy shutter and the pavement, resulting in a severe head injury.

Aftermath and Community Reaction

Sanjay was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday. Initially, the police had filed a case of attempted murder, which was later escalated to murder following Sanjay's death. Investigators confirmed that Pratheek's wife was not implicated in the incident.

This case has raised significant concern within the community, with many advocating for stricter measures against drunk driving and road rage incidents.
