A horrific road accident occurred on Monday in Chhindwara district, Madhya Pradesh. A speeding truck collided violently with a pickup van loaded with laborers parked by the roadside on the Chhindwara-Betul National Highway. This tragic incident resulted in the immediate deaths of six individuals, including one woman, while 21 other workers sustained serious injuries.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the accident took place near Temni village, approximately 30 kilometers from the district headquarters. Ajay Pandey, the Superintendent of Police in Chhindwara, confirmed that six people, including a woman, lost their lives, and 21 others were injured. Regional Deputy Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Chaube explained that the pickup was stationary, with its driver engaged in conversation when the truck struck it, causing the vehicle to overturn.
Traffic Disruption and Eyewitness Accounts
Following the accident, traffic on the highway was disrupted for a period until the damaged vehicles were cleared. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck's left rear tire burst, leading to a collision with a motorcycle, which also resulted in injuries to the rider. Subsequently, the truck overturned.
Response and Support for Victims
Ashish Khare, the Additional Superintendent of Police, indicated that the condition of two to three injured individuals remains critical. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed condolences over the incident and announced financial assistance of four lakh rupees for the families of the deceased, one lakh rupees for those seriously injured, and fifty thousand rupees for other injured parties.
