Fatal Incident in Jorhat District


Jorhat, Jan 16: A tragic road accident occurred early Wednesday morning at Jhanji Hahsara Dihingiagaon, located under the Bamunpukhuri Police Outpost of Teok Police Station in Jorhat district, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving four others critically injured.


Reports indicate that a Scorpio SUV struck six pedestrians before fleeing the scene. The victims who lost their lives have been identified as Abhijit Phukan and Amrit Gogoi. The injured individuals include Pranjit Gogoi, Manas Gogoi, Sujit Gogoi, and Pankaj Dutta, all of whom are receiving medical care at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH). Pankaj Dutta has been transferred to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh for more specialized treatment.


Later in the day, authorities apprehended Mintu Gogoi, the alleged driver of the vehicle, which has since been confiscated. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.


The accident has ignited significant outrage among the local community in Dihingiagaon, with residents calling for severe penalties against Mintu Gogoi.
