A tragic road accident occurred late Monday night in Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of three young men following a high-speed crash in Mandi district. This incident marks the fourth significant road mishap in the state within just four days, raising alarming concerns regarding road safety.

The collision happened near Dadour on the Nerchowk–Sundernagar highway, under the jurisdiction of the Balh police station. Initial reports indicate that a car carrying five individuals collided with a stationary hydra machine parked on the roadside. The impact was particularly severe on the passenger side, leading to the immediate deaths of three occupants, while two others suffered serious injuries and were transported to a nearby medical facility.

The victims have been identified as Anil Kumar (28) from Palahi village, Rohit Kumar (26) from Andretta, and Subhash Kumar (35), also from Palahi in the Balh subdivision of Mandi district. All three were professional drivers operating taxis and other commercial vehicles.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the group had traveled late at night to Nerchowk Medical College to check on the condition of an acquaintance. After not finding the individual there, they speculated that he might have been moved to Sundernagar hospital and were en route when the accident occurred.

Authorities confirmed that the driver and one rear-seat passenger survived the crash, while those on the side that struck the hydra suffered fatal injuries. A case has been filed, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the precise cause of the accident, including factors such as speeding and low visibility.

Increasing Road Mishaps Raise Alarms

This latest incident in Mandi adds to a concerning trend of road accidents in Himachal Pradesh over recent days.

On Saturday, four women teachers tragically lost their lives in Kullu’s Ani subdivision when a tree fell on their moving Bolero during a storm. The following day, a bus accident in Nurpur, Kangra district, resulted in injuries to 28 individuals. Earlier on Monday, four people, including a woman teacher and her daughter, died when their car plunged into a gorge in the Sangrah area of Sirmaur district. Additionally, on the same day in Barsar, Hamirpur district, a couple died after their vehicle fell into a gorge, with two others sustaining injuries.

With the recent Mandi accident, the total fatalities from these incidents has reached 13, with over 35 individuals injured.

Concerns Over Road Safety

The recent spate of accidents has once again brought to light serious concerns regarding speeding, roadside safety, and the dangers of driving in hilly areas, particularly at night. Authorities are anticipated to reassess safety protocols and enforcement measures on high-risk road segments to avert further tragedies.
