Tragic Road Accident Claims Lives of Three Women Farmers in Karnataka

Fatal Incident in Gadag District


On February 5, a devastating road accident in Karnataka's Gadag district resulted in the deaths of three women farmers and left over ten others injured. The incident occurred near Jigloor Cross when a passenger vehicle collided with a canter.


The victims, identified as Annapurna (56), Sangeetha Hosamani (48), and Mariyambu Hunagund (55), were residents of Shivajipete in Gajendragad. They were en route to Rona for groundnut harvesting.


According to law enforcement, the accident happened while daily wage workers from Shivaji Nagar were traveling to Rona in the passenger vehicle. A lorry reportedly struck the passenger vehicle, causing the tragic event. The force of the collision left the passenger vehicle severely damaged.


More than ten individuals sustained injuries and were transported to the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) for medical care. Hospital officials indicated that some of the injured are in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could increase. Six laborers have suffered fractures and are currently receiving treatment.


Rona Police arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation and have filed a case regarding the incident. Gadag Superintendent of Police Rohan Jagadish also visited the site to assess the situation, and further inquiries are ongoing.


In a related incident on January 26, three individuals lost their lives, and four others were injured when their car collided with a truck on National Highway 48 near Nelahaal, within the jurisdiction of the Kora police station in Tumakuru district. The victims were returning to Bengaluru after a leisure trip to Gokarna, Murudeshwar, and Udupi. Preliminary investigations indicated that the car was speeding and crashed into the truck from behind, resulting in severe damage and trapping the occupants. Bystanders assisted police in rescuing the injured.
