Fatal Incident in Rajahmundry

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh), August 9 - A medical student who suffered severe injuries in a road accident in Rajahmundry has passed away on Sunday. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his condolences over the student's death and announced a compensation of ₹20 lakh for her family. The incident occurred outside a shopping mall in Rajahmundry on Thursday.


A speeding car collided with two postgraduate medical students, Priyanka and Umesh, who were riding a motorcycle, and the driver fled the scene. Priyanka was initially taken to a local hospital in Rajahmundry for emergency treatment on August 6, but later transferred to a hospital in Hyderabad for advanced care and further examination.


According to the hospital, Priyanka succumbed to her injuries at 3:32 PM today due to severe head trauma, while Umesh sustained minor injuries. Chief Minister Naidu took to social media to express his sorrow over Priyanka's tragic demise.


It is extremely painful that a promising medical student lost her life due to the recklessness of young individuals driving under the influence of alcohol. Naidu confirmed that the police have apprehended the suspects and they have been remanded to custody. He instructed officials to ensure that the culprits face the strictest penalties.


The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt sympathies to the grieving family and assured them that the state government would provide all possible support to the affected family.
