Fatal Incident Involving Bolivian Air Force Aircraft
On Friday evening, a devastating accident occurred when a Bolivian Air Force Hercules aircraft, transporting newly printed banknotes from the country's central bank, crashed on a busy road in El Alto. Reports indicate that at least 15 individuals lost their lives, and around 30 others sustained injuries.
The military plane went down shortly after takeoff, colliding with vehicles on a crowded street near El Alto International Airport. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find debris scattered across the road, with several cars either damaged or completely destroyed.
The Hercules aircraft was on a mission to deliver new currency to various cities. Following the crash, a significant number of banknotes were found strewn across the ground. Pavel Tower, the head of the fire department, did not clarify whether the deceased were on board the aircraft or in the vehicles on the highway near La Paz. He confirmed that there were also injuries among the individuals involved.
Images circulating on social media depict the aircraft crashing into vehicles before landing in a field near El Alto. Conflicting reports have emerged regarding whether the plane was taking off or landing at the time of the incident.
The wreckage of the aircraft, damaged cars, and bodies were visible on the road. According to Tower, at least 15 vehicles were affected. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames engulfing the aircraft. Social media footage showed people rushing to collect the scattered banknotes while police equipped with riot gear attempted to disperse the crowd. Authorities temporarily suspended all flights arriving and departing from the terminal.
