Tragic Nightclub Fire in Goa Claims 25 Lives
Devastating Incident at North Goa Nightclub
Panaji, Dec 7: A catastrophic fire broke out at a nightclub in North Goa shortly after midnight on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 individuals and leaving six others injured, according to police reports.
Initially, authorities reported 23 fatalities, but later confirmed that two additional victims had succumbed to their injuries.
The blaze occurred at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub located in Arpora, North Goa, as stated by a police spokesperson.
Among the deceased were four tourists and 14 staff members, while the identities of the remaining seven victims are still being verified.
Six individuals sustained injuries in the fire and are currently receiving medical care at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim, as per official sources.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
"Investigations are underway by the police and fire department, and appropriate legal measures will be taken," the official noted.
According to preliminary reports, the nightclub had reportedly failed to comply with fire safety regulations, as indicated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
This nightclub, a well-known party destination in Arpora village, approximately 25 kilometers from Panaji, had opened its doors just last year.
"We will hold the club management accountable and take action against officials who permitted its operation despite safety violations," Sawant stated.
"This tragic event occurs during the peak tourist season in our coastal state," he added. "A thorough investigation will be conducted, and strict action will be enforced against those responsible."
