Tragic Missile Strike in Iran: Children Among Victims
Devastating Attack on School in Minab
The front page of Iran's state-supported English newspaper, Tehran Times, prominently displays images of children who reportedly lost their lives in a missile attack on an elementary school located in Minab, a town in southern Iran. A bold headline reads: “Trump, Look Them In The Eyes.” The editorial accompanying the images harshly criticizes Donald Trump, accusing the US president of disseminating false information regarding the ongoing conflict. The article contends that his comments about military actions in Iran are filled with 'false claims, denial of accountability for atrocities, and an unwillingness to seek diplomatic resolutions.'
Previously, Trump suggested that Iran might have been behind the missile strike, stating to reporters that the attack could have been a result of Iranian weaponry, which he claimed lacks precision.
These comments came after a report from a major news outlet, which indicated that the US military was likely responsible for the strike. Neither the US nor Israel has officially acknowledged their involvement in the incident. Iranian officials report that at least 150 individuals were killed, although a news agency could not independently verify the casualty figures or specifics of the attack due to restricted access for journalists to the site.
The missile strike reportedly took place on February 28 at a military site in Minab, with a school situated within or near the compound being struck, leading to the deaths of over 165 people, predominantly children, according to Iranian authorities.
Research conducted by Trevor Ball, a conflict analyst affiliated with the Dutch investigative organization Bellingcat, indicated that the attack likely involved a Tomahawk cruise missile. Ball shared footage on social media that appears to depict a missile hitting a structure within the compound associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. He stated that this video provides the most compelling evidence to date that the US executed the strike, noting that only the US is known to utilize Tomahawk missiles, while Israel is not believed to have this type of weaponry.
The footage also included comparative images of the missile involved in the strike alongside known visuals of Tomahawk missiles. Ball further mentioned that the video had been geolocated to confirm the precise location of the impact, countering Trump's assertion that Israel might have been responsible.
