Tragic Mining Accident in Jharkhand Leaves Two Workers Trapped

A serious mining accident in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, has resulted in two workers being trapped after a section of the mine collapsed onto their truck. Rescue operations are currently underway, but efforts have been complicated by protests from coal workers and adverse weather conditions. The identities of the trapped workers have been confirmed, and one individual has already been rescued and hospitalized. The incident has led to a temporary halt in coal mining activities in the area, raising concerns about worker safety and operational protocols.
 

Mining Incident in Hazaribagh District

In Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand, a section of a mine collapsed onto a truck, trapping two workers inside. This incident was reported by the police on Sunday.


According to a senior official, the accident occurred around 11 PM on Saturday in the command area of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) within the Uriamari police station jurisdiction, when a part of the mine fell onto a coal-carrying vehicle.


The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Barkagaon, Pawan Kumar, identified the trapped workers as Sunil Yadav, aged 30, and Raju Paswan, aged 50. He stated, 'Rescue operations are ongoing to save both workers. Another individual was successfully retrieved from the site and has been admitted to a local hospital.'


The SDPO further explained that the rescue efforts were hampered on Saturday night due to the workers' protests against coal mining, as well as darkness and fog in the area. Following the incident, coal mining activities were halted by the workers.
