Recent Deaths of Mothers in Bhilwara Hospital

Two more mothers have tragically passed away at the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Bhilwara, bringing the total number of maternal deaths at this government facility to seven due to various reasons, as reported by officials on Friday.

According to the authorities, these fatalities occurred on Wednesday night. One woman had given birth at a hospital in Shahpura and was later transferred to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in critical condition, while another woman delivered her baby at the Bhilwara hospital.

Dr. Arun Gaur, the hospital superintendent, stated that Sugna Mohan Bairwa, a 22-year-old resident of the Kotdi area, was transferred from Shahpura after experiencing severe complications post-delivery. He noted that she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a state of shock, with her blood pressure unrecordable and hemoglobin levels indicating severe anemia.

Despite the treatment provided by a team of specialists, Bairwa succumbed to shock and anemia. The second woman, Rani Bhura Banjara, aged 18 from Patel Nagar, gave birth to her first child at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. Dr. Gaur mentioned that shortly after delivery, Banjara suffered seizures and experienced significant bleeding.

Medical examinations revealed abnormal levels of D-dimer. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, the Chief Medical and Health Officer, announced that investigations into both cases have been initiated. Health officials indicated that neither woman's pregnancy had been classified as high-risk.

To determine the actual causes of death, they are collecting records of prenatal care, hospital documents, sonography reports, and other relevant medical records. Officials have stated that the exact reasons for the deaths remain unclear, and a detailed report will be provided once the investigation is complete. Opposition leader Tika Ram Julie expressed that the news of the two maternal deaths at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital is deeply distressing and indicative of the government's gross insensitivity.

In a statement, Julie highlighted the recent maternal fatalities across various districts, including five deaths in Kota, two in Bikaner, and others in Bhilwara and Banswara, emphasizing that it reflects not only the failure of the state's healthcare system but also a stain on the state government's reputation. He criticized the state government, asserting that Rajasthan's healthcare system is not merely on life support but has entered a state of coma.
