Tragic Loss: Indian National Among Victims of Intensified Russian Strikes in Ukraine
Escalating Violence in Ukraine Claims Indian Life
Kyiv/New York: President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Tuesday that an Indian citizen was among the casualties in a recent surge of Russian assaults on Ukraine. The Indian national was one of twelve individuals who lost their lives due to drone and missile strikes that targeted various locations across Ukraine over a span of five days. The President did not disclose the identity of the deceased or the specific location of the incident.
У Борисполі… pic.twitter.com/ZKQjSvt1lG

The Indian national's death coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for an end to the ongoing conflict, which he described as 'endless'. During a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, PM Modi emphasized the need to transition from continuous warfare to a cessation of hostilities.
He remarked, 'Each day the war persists, humanity takes a step backward, while every move towards peace offers genuine hope for all.'
In response to the tragedy, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv announced its commitment to providing 'all possible assistance' for the swift repatriation of the deceased's remains.
The Embassy expressed its sorrow over the loss, stating, 'We are in contact with the grieving family and extend our heartfelt condolences. We are coordinating with the relevant authorities and the victim's employer to facilitate the repatriation process.'

Zelensky further reported that a strike on a railway depot in Kyiv resulted in seven fatalities. The regions of Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Dnipro also faced attacks. He accused Moscow of deliberately targeting civilians to maximize destruction, stating that such strikes are effective only when air defense systems are inadequate.
He urged for increased support to bolster Ukraine's defenses against missile and drone strikes, highlighting that the number of casualties from Russian aggression is directly linked to the availability of military assistance.
Currently, supplies of the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine have diminished, as the US has utilized them in the Iran War, and European nations are conserving their limited stock for their own defense needs.
In July, US President Donald Trump had agreed to allow Ukraine to produce these systems but later reversed the decision, sending it back for further negotiations.
