Bidar (Karnataka), March 24: A tragic event unfolded on Tuesday when a final-year MBBS student reportedly took his own life at the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BRIMS) hostel, leaving the local community and fellow students in shock.


The individual has been identified as Anishkar Chouhan, a 21-year-old from Salgar Thanda village in the Chincholi taluk of Kalaburagi district.


Preliminary investigations indicate that Chouhan may have succumbed to despair after losing a significant amount of money in online gaming. However, authorities are continuing their inquiries to determine the precise circumstances surrounding his death.


Chouhan was in his final year of medical studies and had dreams of becoming a doctor.


According to police reports, the incident occurred in his hostel room, where he was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan. The situation was brought to light by fellow students and hostel staff who alerted the authorities.


Law enforcement officials arrived promptly to assess the scene, with Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti also visiting to evaluate the situation.


This unexpected loss has sparked discussions about the impact of online gaming addiction and mental health issues among students.


Chouhan had reportedly lost approximately Rs 80,000 while gaming, which is believed to have caused him significant emotional distress, potentially leading to his tragic decision.


His father expressed deep sorrow, sharing that it was their aspiration for him to become a doctor, a sentiment that resonates with many.


The family is currently in a state of shock and is preparing to lodge a formal complaint regarding the incident. Police have confirmed that a case will be registered and further investigations will proceed.
