Lucknow Tragedy: A Young Life Lost

In a heartbreaking incident in Lucknow, a 32-year-old property dealer named Prabal Jain took his own life after suffering significant losses in session betting during an IPL match. The tragedy unfolded on Thursday night around 8:30 PM when he jumped from the 11th floor of the Janeshwar Apartment enclave located on Kursi Road. At the time, the IPL 2026 match between RCB and Gujarat Titans was ongoing, where Prabal had placed bets and lost a substantial amount of money.

According to police reports, Prabal hailed from Mahmoodabad in Sitapur and was renting an apartment in the Gudamba area of Lucknow. He had recently married Shivani, a resident of Bokaro in Jharkhand, just eight months ago after meeting her during their studies at Integral University. At the time of the incident, Shivani was in Sitapur, and they were conversing over the phone.

Jump from the Balcony

During the match, Prabal called his wife, crying and expressing that he had lost a lot. Despite Shivani's attempts to console him, he could not say more before the call abruptly ended. Moments later, he jumped from the balcony. Residents of the society rushed to the scene after hearing the fall. The weather was pleasant following a rain shower, and many were out in the vicinity.

Suicide Note Reveals Pain

A crowd quickly gathered, and panic ensued. Emergency services and police were notified immediately. Authorities transported Prabal to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A suicide note was recovered at the scene, detailing his heavy losses from IPL betting and the burden of debt. In the note, he also apologized to his wife and family. ACP Anindya Vikram Singh stated that an investigation would be conducted based on bank statements, family complaints, and other evidence.

Family Tragedy

Shivani revealed during questioning that Prabal was an avid IPL viewer and frequently engaged in betting, particularly session betting, where he had recently faced significant losses. Neighbors noted that Prabal and Shivani had moved to the society around Diwali last year and kept to themselves. Tragically, Prabal's father had also committed suicide some time ago, and his mother had passed away earlier.
