Tragic Incident: Two Fishermen Die from Suffocation in Odisha's Fishing Chamber
Fatal Suffocation at Fishing Base
Balasore: In a tragic event, two fishermen lost their lives due to suffocation inside a boat's storage chamber in Balasore district, Odisha, as reported by local authorities on Sunday.
The unfortunate incident occurred at the Balaramgudi fishing base, located near Chandipur, on Saturday, according to a police spokesperson.
The deceased, aged approximately 34 and 31, reportedly lost consciousness while attempting to retrieve fish from the storage area of a mechanized fishing vessel. It is believed they may have fainted after inhaling formalin, a chemical commonly used to preserve fish for extended periods.
Other fishermen managed to rescue them and rushed them to the Balasore district hospital, where medical personnel pronounced them dead upon arrival.
Narendra Kumar Pal, the inspector in charge of the Balaramgudi marine police station, confirmed that a case has been filed, and the bodies have been sent for autopsy.
He mentioned that the precise cause of death will be determined following the autopsy report, and further investigations are currently ongoing.
