In a tragic event in Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, a young man reportedly died after consuming poison, while a young woman remains in critical condition. This information was shared by the police on Monday.

According to police reports, the couple, who wished to marry, took this drastic step due to opposition from their families. The 18-year-old woman from Dumjheda village and 19-year-old Ankur from Nalheda village were in love and had intentions of getting married.

Police officer Vikas Pratap Singh Chauhan stated that discussions had taken place between both families, but ultimately, the woman's relatives were not in favor of the marriage. On Sunday evening, the couple went to a field near the cremation ground in Dumjheda and ingested a toxic substance.

After consuming the poison, Ankur managed to call a friend to inform them of the situation, which led to the police being notified. Both individuals were initially taken to a primary health center and later transferred to a medical college and hospital, where Ankur succumbed to his condition on Monday, while the woman continues to receive treatment.

Chauhan mentioned that no formal complaint has been filed by either party as of now. The young man's body has been sent for an autopsy, and further actions will be determined following the post-mortem report.
