In a deeply disturbing incident that has rocked the local community, a man has been taken into custody after allegedly murdering his mother with a wooden stick at their residence in the Jayadevi region of Sundernagar, located in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district, late on Sunday night.

The deceased, Parvati Devi, was an employee at the Himachal Pradesh State Secretariat in Shimla and had returned to her hometown for a short leave. Tragically, her visit turned fatal when she was reportedly attacked by her son, Khema Ram, under circumstances that are still being investigated.

Authorities were alerted to the situation around 11 PM by Khoob Ram, a local resident from Uwah village in the Jayadevi area. He informed the police that Khema Ram had assaulted his mother, resulting in severe injuries. It is believed that Parvati Devi succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

A police unit from the BBMB Colony Police Station in Sundernagar quickly arrived at the location, secured the area, and took the body into custody. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was summoned to gather evidence as part of the ongoing investigation. The body is set to undergo a post-mortem to determine the precise cause of death.

Investigating Alcohol Influence

While the motive behind the alleged homicide remains uncertain, initial inquiries indicate that the suspect may have been intoxicated during the incident. Police officials noted that this will be confirmed following a medical examination of the accused and the receipt of forensic results.
