New Delhi, June 25: A 24-year-old woman reportedly died by suicide at her home in the Nangloi area of Delhi. This tragic event followed the recording of two videos in which she allegedly accused her husband and in-laws of ongoing harassment, as stated by officials on Thursday.
Details of the Incident
Authorities received a report at Nangloi Police Station on Monday around 11:09 a.m., indicating that a woman, referred to as ‘A’, aged approximately 26 and residing in Nangloi Extension, had been taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial (SGM) Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Initial investigations revealed that the woman had died from hanging. Given that her death occurred within seven years of her marriage, the case was forwarded to the relevant Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for an inquest as per legal requirements.
Family Allegations
The Tehsildar of Mundka recorded statements from the deceased's mother, who claimed that her daughter’s husband, Rohit, often assaulted her while intoxicated. The family expressed that the woman had endured significant challenges in her marriage.
Additionally, investigators looked into Rohit’s health status. Reports indicate he is receiving treatment for a severe head injury from an accident a few months prior, with medical professionals suggesting his condition is critical and that he may not survive beyond 2-3 years.
Investigation Progress
As the inquiry continued, the family of the deceased provided two videos allegedly recorded by her shortly before her death. Police are currently analyzing these recordings as part of the investigation.
Officials noted that the videos depict significant psychological distress and fear for her life due to ongoing harassment from her husband.
Investigators are reviewing the video content alongside other evidence to clarify the circumstances surrounding her death.
Legal Proceedings
A post-mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday as part of the legal protocol. Following the inquiry and based on the family's allegations and collected evidence, authorities have filed a case against the husband.
Ongoing investigations are being carried out, with police examining all facets of the situation.
