Tragic Incident in Dehradun: Retired Brigadier Killed by Stray Bullet
Retired Army Officer Fatally Shot in Dehradun
Dehradun: Brigadier V.K. Joshi, a retired Army officer, tragically lost his life on Monday morning in the Rajpur locality of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, after being struck by a stray bullet during a shooting incident, according to police reports.
The unfortunate event unfolded around 7 a.m. when a dispute arose between the drivers of two vehicles in the vicinity, escalating into gunfire. Joshi, who was out for his morning walk, found himself caught in the crossfire and sustained severe injuries.
He was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.
Dehradun's SP City, Pramod Kumar, stated, “We received a report around 7 a.m. regarding a conflict in Johari village over overtaking between two vehicles, which led to gunfire. One individual was injured and taken to the hospital, but we have now been informed of his death during treatment.”
He also mentioned, “The area has been secured, and the vehicle involved, along with its occupants, is currently under investigation. Arrests will be made shortly.”
Law enforcement has initiated a thorough search operation and established checkpoints across various police jurisdictions, including rural areas, to locate those responsible. They are also working to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
Authorities have indicated that more information will be released as the investigation continues.
In an unrelated incident earlier this year on January 11, another retired Army officer, Lieutenant General Kulwant Singh Mann, aged approximately 85, died in a road accident in Panchkula, Haryana. He was struck by an unidentified vehicle while walking near his home.
He was taken to the Army's Command Hospital in Chandimandir but unfortunately passed away due to his injuries. Police have filed a case against the unknown driver and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations, as the accident site did not have camera coverage.
