Fatal Collapse During Physical Test


Bhubaneswar: A tragic event unfolded in Odisha's Gajapati district on Thursday morning when a young man lost his life and seven others were hospitalized during a physical test for Home Guard recruitment, according to police reports.


The incident took place during a 2 km running assessment near Parlakhemundi, specifically between Ranipenth and Padmapur.


The victim has been identified as Sulant Mishal, hailing from Parisal village in the Gajapati district.


Witnesses reported that Mishal collapsed just 30 seconds shy of completing the run.


Despite being rushed to the district headquarters hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.


Seven additional candidates who experienced health issues during the test are currently receiving medical care at the same facility.


In response to this unfortunate incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his condolences and announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the bereaved family.


The Chief Minister's Office shared on X, stating, "Sulant Mishal passed away while participating in the physical examination for Home Guard recruitment in Gajapati. Chief Minister Shri @MohanMOdisha conveyed his heartfelt sorrow over the incident and declared a compensation of Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the deceased's family."
