A Heartbreaking Loss in Kanpur

This week, the Kanpur court complex in Uttar Pradesh was engulfed in silence following the tragic suicide of a 24-year-old aspiring lawyer, Priyanshu Srivastava, who jumped from the fifth floor of the courthouse. He was rushed to Ursula Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff. Before his death, Priyanshu left behind a poignant suicide note that is likely to shake even the hardest of hearts.

Just prior to his leap, he shared a handwritten note on his WhatsApp status, spanning two pages. In this note, he detailed the mental and physical abuse he endured at home, rather than from any external adversaries, which had led him to a life of despair. He recounted several childhood incidents that filled him with shame and humiliation.

Childhood Trauma and Family Struggles

One such incident occurred when he was just six years old. After drinking mango juice from the fridge without permission, his father reacted with extreme anger, stripping him and throwing him out of the house. Priyanshu noted that this event left a lasting impact on him, instilling a deep sense of guilt.

He also referenced another troubling episode from 2016 when he was in the ninth grade. He wished to choose Physical Education as a subject, but his father forced him to select Computer Science instead. The note accused his father of issuing threats and punishments for not complying with his wishes, often humiliating him in the process.

Final Words of Despair

According to police reports, Priyanshu expressed that he could no longer endure the situation, leading him to make the heartbreaking decision to end his life. He requested that his mother not be troubled after his passing. While he did not directly accuse anyone, he explicitly stated that his father should not be allowed to touch his body.

In the viral letter, he wrote, "Do not allow my father to touch my body. I do not wish for any action to be taken against him, so my family does not face any trouble. My only prayer is that no one has to endure such a father. I have lost, and my father has won. Congratulations to him."

Ongoing Investigation

The authenticity of this letter has not been independently verified by any media outlet. The police are currently reviewing the case and have initiated an investigation, examining CCTV footage from the court complex. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Satyajit Gupta, "We are meticulously investigating the suicide note and WhatsApp status."
