Fatal Attack on Police in Peshawar

Peshawar: A devastating explosion targeting a police vehicle in northwest Pakistan resulted in the deaths of at least six officers, including a senior official, and left three others injured on Monday, according to local authorities.

The incident occurred in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province while the police vehicle was on patrol duty, when it was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unidentified assailants.

Among the deceased are a Station House Officer, a Sub-Inspector, three members of the Elite Force, and a driver, as reported by police.

The injured officers were promptly transported to a nearby medical facility, where some are currently in critical condition.

Provincial Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack, labeling it as 'highly tragic' and 'deplorable'.

He extended his condolences to the families of the victims, asserting that those who seek to disrupt peace will not succeed in their malicious intentions by targeting law enforcement.

In response to the attack, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi requested a comprehensive report and expressed profound sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the families of the fallen officers.

Kundi urged the provincial government, led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, to implement effective measures aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region.

In a separate incident, an IED explosion in the Lakki Marwat district resulted in injuries to a Station House Officer and two other police personnel.

Authorities indicated that the explosive device was strategically placed near a bridge to target the District Police Officer (DPO).

Earlier, an attempted attack on the Nala Kasho police check-post in Bannu district was thwarted thanks to the swift response of police forces.

The attackers engaged in gunfire using both light and heavy weaponry, but the police personnel's counterattack forced them to retreat without any reported casualties.

Pakistan has seen a rise in terrorist activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, with police and security forces being the primary targets.
