Flagstaff: A helicopter from the Arizona Department of Public Safety tragically crashed while responding to an active shooter incident, resulting in the deaths of both the pilot and a paramedic trooper on board, as confirmed by officials.

The Bell 407 helicopter was dispatched to support the Flagstaff Police Department and other law enforcement agencies on Wednesday night, according to Sgt. Kameron Lee.

During the operation, the helicopter went down around 10:15 p.m., leading to a fire, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The helicopter, manufactured in 2004, was located northeast of the shooting site, as indicated by a map shown on KTVK-TV.

The FAA is collaborating with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to investigate the crash, with inquiries sent to the NTSB for further details.

The state’s Air Rescue Unit is equipped to handle various high-risk scenarios, including rescues in mountainous and aquatic environments.

Meanwhile, the suspect involved in the shooting sustained non-fatal injuries and has been apprehended, according to Lee.
