Devastating Blaze in Malviya Nagar
A catastrophic fire erupted in a five-story building housing a bed-and-breakfast in South Delhi, resulting in the deaths of at least 21 individuals, with many others injured. Among the deceased were several foreign nationals, primarily from Central Asian and African countries. Numerous injured victims have been admitted to local hospitals. In the aftermath, grieving relatives gathered at Max Hospital in Saket, seeking information about their loved ones. Authorities confirmed that the Delhi Police have initiated a case of culpable homicide regarding the incident. Following the tragedy, a large-scale rescue operation was launched by the Delhi Fire Service.
Details of the Fire Incident
According to reports, the fire broke out at the Flourish Stay B&B located in the densely populated Hauz Rani area of Malviya Nagar. Emergency alerts were received by the Delhi Fire Service early in the morning, prompting the dispatch of multiple fire engines to the scene. This response included two fire trucks, two water tankers, a rapid response vehicle, and additional emergency equipment. A fire service official reported that three individuals were rescued from the basement of the Lemon Green restaurant. Firefighters arrived at approximately 8:50 AM to combat the blaze, and the rescued individuals were transported to the hospital via CAT ambulances. Their current condition remains unknown, and the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Police Investigation and FIR Filed
Officials have indicated that the Delhi Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against culpable homicide in connection with the fire incident. Sources revealed that the hotel had only one entrance and exit point. Investigations are ongoing regarding the fire safety clearance for the establishment.
