Devastating Fire Incident in Palam


New Delhi, March 18: A devastating fire in a multi-storey building in Palam, New Delhi, resulted in the loss of nine lives on Wednesday. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and announced a financial aid of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased.


The fire broke out early in the morning at a building located in Ram Market, leading to multiple injuries among the residents.


In a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), it was noted, "The fire incident in Palam is deeply saddening. I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured."


Additionally, the PMO confirmed that an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh would be provided to the next of kin of each victim, while those injured would receive ₹50,000.


Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.


Authorities were alerted about the fire at around 7:04 a.m. at the Police Station Palam Village, prompting immediate action from the Station House Officer (SHO) and police personnel.


The blaze originated in a four-storey building located at WZ-124A, Ram Chowk Market. Officials reported that the basement, ground, and first floors housed a cloth and cosmetic showroom owned by Rajender Kashyap, who also serves as the Market Pradhan, while his family lived on the upper levels.


Rescue teams successfully evacuated several individuals from the building and transported them to local hospitals. Unfortunately, casualties were confirmed at various medical facilities.


At Manipal Hospital, eight victims were pronounced dead, including Pravesh (33), Kamal (39), Ashu (35), Lado (70), Himanshi (22), and three minor girls aged 15, 6, and 3 years.


At IGI Hospital, one woman, identified as Deepika (approximately 28 years old), was declared dead upon arrival, while a male patient, Anil (around 32 years), and a two-year-old girl are currently receiving treatment.


At Safdarjung Hospital, a 29-year-old man named Sachin was admitted with severe burn injuries, estimated at around 25%.
