A tragic fire broke out in a coaching center located in a commercial building in the Purnia area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the loss of 14 lives. As thick smoke and flames engulfed parts of the building, many students were forced to jump out to escape the inferno.

Government Response and Condolences

Prime Minister Modi expressed his sorrow over the fatalities and announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that he received information about the incident, which involved several trapped children, leading to their tragic deaths. He emphasized that the administration is engaged in rescue operations and that he must return to Lucknow immediately due to this unfortunate event. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their children and instructed the state's Director General of Police and the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) to personally visit the site and report on the situation. He assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted, and those responsible would face justice.

Emotional Reactions from Officials

Upon arriving at the scene, Uttar Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak was visibly emotional. He recounted witnessing 14 bodies and confirmed that 13 children had been rescued and sent to the hospital. He described the situation as severe, with smoke filling the interior of the building. Rescue teams are currently searching every room, as the presence of wooden furniture has made visibility extremely poor. Fire brigade personnel and NDRF teams are actively working on-site. The fire reportedly started suddenly in what was an animation center.

Investigation and Future Precautions

Pathak noted that the children attended the center to learn animation, specifically cartoon creation. He mentioned that details regarding the cause of the fire are still unclear. The injured are being transported to the KGMC trauma center, with most victims being around 16 to 17 years old. High-level inquiries have been ordered, with the Principal Secretary (Home) and DGP summoned to the scene to investigate the causes and ensure strict measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
