Tragic Fire in Kerala's Firecracker Warehouse Claims 13 Lives
Fire Incident in Mundathikode, Thrissur
New Delhi. A devastating fire broke out at a firecracker warehouse in Mundathikode village, located under the Vadakkancheri municipality in Thrissur district, Kerala. This tragic incident has resulted in the loss of 13 lives, with several others sustaining injuries.
According to the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), 13 individuals have been rescued from the site. Among the injured, five are currently receiving critical care, while two others have been admitted to the ward. Additionally, 17 individuals have suffered minor injuries.
The fire incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Medical College police limits in the Thalappilly taluk of Mundathikode village. Officials have indicated that these figures are preliminary and may change as more information becomes available. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing in Thrissur, with the injured being treated at local hospitals.
Prime Minister Modi Expresses Condolences
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the loss of life in the explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Thrissur, Kerala, on Tuesday. He announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased.
The Prime Minister's Office stated in a post on X, “The Prime Minister has announced that ₹2 lakh will be provided to the families of each deceased from the PMNRF. Injured individuals will receive ₹50,000.”
Fire Incident in Tamil Nadu
On the previous day, Monday, April 20, a fire broke out at a firecracker factory in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, resulting in the deaths of 25 people.
