Devastating Incident in Palam Area

In a heartbreaking incident in southwest Delhi's Palam area, a fire erupted in a multi-storey residential building early Wednesday morning, resulting in the tragic deaths of nine family members, including three children. Authorities reported that three additional individuals sustained injuries, with two of them jumping from the building in a desperate bid to escape the flames.

The five-story structure housed a cloth and cosmetic showroom on the ground and first floors, while the family of the showroom's owner, Rajender Kashyap, resided on the second and third floors.

Emergency services received reports of the fire at 7:04 AM at the Palam Village police station, prompting immediate action from rescue teams.

Despite the efforts to save them, nine individuals were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Pravesh (33), Kamal (39), Ashu (35), Lado (70), Himanshi (22), Deepika (28), and three minor girls aged 15, six, and three.

Currently, Anil (32) and a two-year-old girl are receiving treatment, while Sachin (29) is being treated for 25% burn injuries at Safdarjung Hospital.

A significant response was mobilized, with around 30 fire engines and 11 ambulances deployed, alongside personnel from police, BSES, Air Force police, and the NDRF to conduct a large-scale firefighting and rescue operation.

Footage from the scene depicted thick black smoke billowing from the building, with flames consuming parts of the structure as firefighters worked tirelessly in the congested market area.

Firefighters conducted thorough search and rescue operations, maneuvering through narrow lanes and smoke-filled interiors to evacuate trapped individuals. Officials confirmed that the fire has been extinguished.

The area has been secured, and a forensic team has been dispatched to investigate the scene. The precise cause of the fire remains unknown, and police are continuing their inquiries.
