Tragic Elevator Incident in Bhadrak: Family to Receive Compensation
Compensation Announced Following Elevator Tragedy
Bhadrak: The district administration of Bhadrak in Odisha has declared a compensation of Rs 6 lakh for the family of a woman who tragically lost her life after becoming trapped in an outdated elevator.
District Collector Dillip Routrai announced the ex gratia payment and instructed the Road and Building (R&B) division to prioritize the installation of a new lift at the district headquarters hospital.
A committee, headed by the sub-collector of Bhadrak, will investigate the incident, and further actions will be determined based on their findings.
"We have instructed the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) to expedite the replacement of the lift and implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The sub-collector will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident, and those found responsible will face consequences," Routrai stated.
The victim, Minati Parida, aged 54, from Narasinghapur village, reportedly succumbed to suspected suffocation after being trapped in the elevator while being transferred to the medicine ward.
