Tragic Drowning Incident in Cuttack: Engineer Loses Life While Rescuing Colleague

Both engineers, in their mid-20s and from Maharashtra, were part of a construction team working on a local hospital renovation. While one body has been recovered, search efforts continue for the missing engineer. Drowning Incident in Kathajodi River


Bhubaneswar: A tragic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when an engineer drowned and another went missing while swimming in the Kathajodi river in Cuttack, according to police reports.


The event unfolded around 3 PM when four employees from a private construction firm, tasked with renovating the SCB Medical College and Hospital campus, decided to take a break at the river.


One engineer lost his footing and fell into the deep water. In a brave attempt to save him, another engineer jumped in but was quickly overwhelmed by the strong current, as stated by a police officer.


Rescue teams have successfully recovered the body of the deceased, while efforts continue to locate the missing engineer.


The two engineers have been identified as Rutikesh Matal and Rutik Bhonje, both in their mid-20s and originally from Maharashtra.
