Holi Festivities End in Tragedy
Nalbari, Mar 5: A joyous Holi celebration took a heartbreaking turn in the Kamrup district of Assam when three young men drowned in the Puthimari River close to Nayanpur on Wednesday night.
The deceased have been named as Jay Prakash Kalita (28) from Nayanpur, Vishal Das (23) from Pakhamela, and Sandeep Kalita (22) from Shantipur.
Reports indicate that a group of seven friends had gathered by the riverbank in Nayanpur, part of the Hajo revenue circle, to enjoy Holi with a festive meal. After preparing their food during the day, three of them decided to take a dip in the river.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was dispatched to assist in the search efforts. Later that night, the bodies of the three young men were retrieved from the river.
A local resident expressed sorrow, stating, “On Holi, seven friends had gathered for a feast by the riverbank. When three entered the water, they soon disappeared.
